Free Motion Doodling is one of my favorite ways to quilt. It helps loosen both my shoulders and my creativity, and little by little, I get better as I make time to have fun and practice. If you want to try yourself, I suggest you grab some fabric that really inspires you and make some quilt sandwiches.
Recipe Ingredients:
– backing fabric, wrong side down
– batting or foam
– inspirational and favorite fabric, right side up
I use spray baste, 505 for my quilt sandwiches so that I don’t have all the pins while I’m trying to quilt with free motion doodling.
Start small- think around the size of a piece of paper- when you are prepping these sandwiches.
Use your favorite scraps from the year!
That way you don’t get overwhelmed and can move around easily as you doodle.
Doodling Baby Goats
Once you have a quilt sandwich ready, pick your thread and go to town!
**this is sped up for your viewing enjoyment and so you can see where this free motion doodle takes me.
A simple meander with a loop and these baby goats are full of life!

All of it is gearing up for the Free Motion Quilting Summit, hosted by Mary of @marygoroundquilts – so many quilters sharing amazing tutorials from all over the world! I can’t wait to see you there 🩷🧵🩷

Until the next doodle, have some fun! <3 Kate
