I’m excited to announce my next round of classes for kids in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago! Sewing is something that I started when I was quite young. I want to inspire a new generation of sewists and quilters to experience the beautiful things that they can make and the joy that comes along with it!
If your kiddo wants to learn how to sew, these classes will be perfect to give you a little break on Thursday mornings and give them some connection and new learning opportunities. Perfect for those sticking around this summer and wanting a little bit of structure that adds a lot of fun. Thursday morning activities are a must when getting ready for the weekend. Parents do not need to remain on site for this class, so you can drop them off and return when it’s time to pick them up. There is a Jewel Osco close by, the little downtown area of Barrington, Illinois, some coffee shops to do some work, and some restaurants to enjoy! If you’re coming from a little further out in the Chicago suburbs, there is much to enjoy in Barrington!
“Stitched Stories”: Kids Summer Sewing Class
At Warman Cozy in Barrington, IL, I’ll be teaching a series of three classes for 6 students, ages 8 years and older. It will be held on Thursday, June 26, July 3, and 10 from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm. These projects are curated for your son or daughter to create some fun items to enjoy their summer reading by putting their personality into what that they actually make!

June 26: Sew Four Quilted Bookmarks
Students will learn how to quilt their bookmarks, sew a seam all the way around them, and pivot at the corners. In addition to those basic skills, learning how to hide the seams and raw edges is critical in finishing sewing projects and we will learn how to do that together. There are enough bookmarks to make some for themselves and give some to friends!
July 3: Sew a Book Sleeve
The book sleeve class is designed to help students learn how to use the skills from the first week and take it a little further on a bigger scale. We will review the basics together, learn how to make a lining in order to hide the raw edges, and even add a pencil pocket and snap. This book sleeve can hold a few smaller books and is big enough to fit a hardback book as well!
July 10: Sew a Book Tote
This class is a great step forward in learning a few more skills when making sewing projects that are functional in the real world. We will learn how to add handles to a bag, sew a lining, and even use some basting in this simple design.
My favorite thing about doing this at Warman Cozy is that it is a beautiful quilt shop, full of fun fabrics. Each student will be able to pick out their own fabric for each of their projects, and I will have some items to coordinate! It’s all included in the price of the class, as are the rest of the supplies and tools besides a sewing machine.
If you don’t have a sewing machine, don’t let that stop you. I have some sewing machines for your student to use, so please reach out and let me know! It’s only $5 to rent a machine from me for any of my classes.
