The Fun of Simple Games

We have a lot of games spread out into two little cabinets. There are games for all ages, young and old, and still I know there must be so many more games out there to buy and enjoy. At this time in my life, I don’t have a lot of time to learn the rules to high concept and strategy games. But one day, I hope to have more time to do that. So when I want to play a game with the kids, I bring out some of my old favorites.

I packed this game for our camping trip, but we weren’t able to camp out as long as we wanted. It was ready in my bag for our weekend of fun and so we decided to play together just like we would have outside or inside of our tent this weekend.

What I love about Checkers:

  • It’s a simple strategy game for kids to get their feet wet as they learn to see all of the different plays their opponent can make.
  • Because of that it’s a good game to introduce before trying Chess. And you use the same board, move forward and then backwards the same way.
  • It’s a great game to teach your kids in order to help them learn how to lose and accept defeat graciously.
  • Anyone can play! The first time my son learned to play this, it was with his Grandpa. This is a time-treasured game because it has been around forever. I love that we can make family memories playing something that we all love!

We have one Travels Checkers Game Board in the shop now, on sale until this weekend ends and I’ll be making some more. Check it out here:

Tic Tac Toe

We love this game. It’s the perfect game for my kids as they want to play something together and learn something that takes a bit of strategy. It’s another timeless treasure, but one that growing up I used to always play on paper. Last year, my father developed some game boards that contain Tic Tac Toe on one side and 3 Men’s Morris on the other, and we love them!

I had this game packed for our camping trip and we got it out to play yesterday as well. This is a part of Ancient Game Family Night game bundle and the best thing about it- I include a sheet of history and different versions of each of the games on the board.

I call this game Tic Tac Toe, but every time I mention it, my husband has no idea what I’m talking about because he grew up calling it Naughts and Crosses. This is a great game because it has spanned centuries and has been played all over the world. You can check out this game:

Until next time, hope you have some fun and games this Memorial Day Weekend! <3 Kate
